Making sure your text is easy to read is an important part of designing artwork for print. If your font is too small, your message or key details could be difficult to read once printed.
As a general guide, we recommend the following minimum font sizes:
Business Cards: 6pt minimum - Business cards have limited space, so keep your text clear and simple. Where possible, use larger font to make contact details easier to read.
Flyers and larger products: 8pt minimum - For flyers, posters and other printed products, we recommend using at least 8pt. If your design will be viewed from a distance, consider using larger text.
Tips for keeping your text readable
Choose a clear font – Decorative or intricate fonts can be difficult to read at smaller sizes.
Check your contrast – Make sure your text stands out against the background. Light grey text on a white background, for example, may be difficult to read.
Consider how it will be used - Think about how and where people will read your printed product, and adjust your font size accordingly.
View your design and proof at 100% - This helps you check how readable your text will be at it's actual size when printed.
Check your proof carefully - Make sure all text is clear and legible before approving your proof.
