How do I create a Spot UV design?

Spot UV adds a glossy finish to selected areas of your printed design, helping them stand out. To get started, you'll need to supply your two artwork files: your full design and a separate file showing where you want the Spot UV applied. 

How do I prepare my Spot UV artwork?

1. Create you full design: Design your artwork as normal and save it as a PDF without highlighting       any Spot UV areas.
2. Create your spot UV file: Duplicate your design and remove all the elements you don't want to          have the Spot UV finish, leaving only the text, shapes or images you want to highlight.
3. Add any extra elements: If you'd like to add a pattern or texture that isn't part of your original            design, include it in your Spot UV file.
4. Use one solid colour: Change all the elements in your Spot UV file to the same solid fill colour         and use a plain white background.
5. Save your file: Export the Spot UV artwork as a separate PDF, including _Spot UV in the filename. 

Your two files should be: 

* Original Artwork: Your complete design without the spot UV areas highlighted.
* Spot UV Artwork: Only the areas where you want the Spot UV finish applied.

What should I consider when designing Spot UV artwork?

Spot UV works best when applied to clearly defined areas. If you apply it to intricate details or small text, the finish may fill in small spaced, such as the inside of letters, affecting the final appearance.

Yes! You can use our free Spot UV business card template to help create your design.

Can you set up the Spot UV location for me?

Absolutely! If you're unable to create the Spot UV files, upload your main artwork when placing your order as normal. Once your proof is available, select "My Proof is Wrong" and follow the instructions to add notes explaining exactly where you'd like the Spot UV finish to be applied. Then proceed to checkout to complete your order. 

Your notes will be sent to our Studio Artwork Team to review. They'll then prepare an updated proof for you to check, which will be available in your account and sent to you by email.
